Y'all--it's too bad that Yuletide nominations are past, because this video starting at 44:29 needs to be a new fandom.

It's Folding Ideas, who I've followed for a while. The main video is debunking a geocentrist documentary, an offshoot of his excellent previous video explaining Flat Earthers and QAnon. As such, if you watch the whole video, lots of discussion of anti-Semitism, homophobia, and transphobia.

But the last minute? He goes through the sexuality of the planets and it is THE BEST THING EVER.

"The Galilean moons?"
"Pan polycule, except for Calisto, who is monogamous with Ganymede."

Go watch it. Go watch it, and someone pleeeeeease write fic.

Yuletide

I am not doing Yuletide this year, for the first time in a while.

I've had a pattern the past couple years of never writing a Yuletide letter, writing the story at the last minute, then taking forever to read my gift (I am always with family the week of Christmas, so not a lot of screen time). Then last year, I started working on a client with a quarter end in December. (For the non-accountants, that means working til 9-10 at night most nights for the two weeks before Christmas). So last year, I left work the night Yuletide stories were due, spent an hour writing it, then logged back on and kept working til midnight. I never even proofread that story.

So I'm admitting defeat, at least while I have this work schedule. I nominated Pinter's Betrayal, though. Just in case anyone happens to see it in the tag set and decide to write it.

Another year, another Yuletide fic written at the absolute last minute. I used this as an assignment to rewatch the series, including venturing into season three, which I never watched in the initial airing, having given up somewhere between the sentient plants and the prehistoric crocodile in season two. (Let's just say I fully understand why Roy Scheider quit.) I stand by the first season, though, as solidly middle-of-the-road television. That world-building and those characters deserved so much better than they got.

Anyway. Fic!

Title: Surely You're Joking, Dr. Wolenczak
Fandom: seaQuest DSV
Rating: Gen
Summary: In an alternate future off of the season one canon, Dr. Lucas Wolenczak writes his memoirs. With the most sincere flatter meant for Surely You're Joking, Mr. Feynman.

Dear Yuletide writer—
Thank you for writing a story for me! In general, I love angst, and stories focused on characters. I love reading about people negotiating their relationship with each other. It's a thing. My do not wants are rape/noncon, character death, torture, graphic violence, extended medical descriptions, bloodplay. I hope I've given you enough detail below to get your bunnies started. Slash, gen, and het are all fine, as are threesomes and moresomes.

Constantine (TV)
This show was gone before its time. Really I just want team bonding between John, Chas, and Zed. Or! Chas and Zed getting to know each other without John as their only thing in common. Or! More Chas angst around his particular curse. The show gave us some, but I'd love more angsty backstory of how his and John's friendship got from that moment to where it is in the show.

Almost Human
Another show tragically gone before its time. What I'd love more than anything is a story that made sense of the soup of this show's worldbuilding. (The fact that they aired it out of order didn't help.) What is the wall? What happened during the revolt? Anything that capitalizes on all the tantalizing hints. With Dorian and John of course--the charisma of those two was off the charts.

The Count of Monte Cristo (2002)
Did I mention I love angst? Cause this movie (and the book--I've read that too, so have no objections to book canon) brings the aaaaaaaaangst. Really anything that rolls around in Edmond's super-emo, competence-porn awesomeness. (And now I'm just envisioning a Person of Interest AU where Reese is the Count and--no! No! No crossovers for yuletide! I will not break the rules! ...But that would be awesome, right?)

Yuletide accomplished! *iz ded*

Every year I sign up for Yuletide at the last minute. Cause every year I know there was something that I wanted fic for at some point during the year, but I can never remember what. And every year I think I should probably make a list for next year...but never do.

This year I read through the available fandoms and managed to remember a few that I hadn't nominated but remembered that I wanted (so thankfully someone else nominated them). And of course remembered one totally obscure thing I would have nominated if I'd thought about it. But--noms completed! Now I just have to wait a week to see if I offered to write anything that I maybe shouldn't have--cause it's always the one fandom that you think, why not, that's the one you get.

I wrote the only Constantine fic this Yuletide, to the surprise of no one. So here it is, my only fic output for 2012:

Title: Golgata
Author: Ivyfic/Ivy03
Fandom: Constantine (2005)
Wordcount: 1,700
Rating: PG
Category: Gen
A/N: Yuletide 2012 for AmethystShard

Summary: "Is that a tattoo gun?" Chas's voice absolutely did not squeak. "Not that I haven't thought an afternoon of non-consensual tattooing from my boss would be a fun time, but aren't you at least supposed to get me hammered first?"

Have discovered that the yuletide fandom I forgot to nominate has in fact been nominated--just under a different name than I'd been looking for. Win!

Yuletide reveal! I wrote a Hercules story. First thing I've written in almost two years.

Title: Passing Strange
Author: Ivy03
Fandom: Hercules: The Legendary Journeys
Wordcount: 8,000
Rating: PG
Category: Gen
Spoilers: Entire series
A/N: Yuletide 2011 for Persephone_Scheherazade.
I have strived to be as historically accurate as the series. Which is to say, not at all.
This was perhaps a little overambitious for a yuletide story. Also, I wrote this while quite sick. Er...it kind of got away from me.

Summary:
Ever since Iolaus came back from the dead (again), Hercules has been avoiding Corinth. Iolaus would like to know why.

This year for Yuletide, I got a Brisco County, Jr. story! I've requested Brisco County every year I've done Yuletide, and this is the first time I've gotten it. Check it out:

This year for yuletide I wrote a Chuck fic for AlamoGirl80. As usual, I got a fandom I was way behind in watching, so...pre-series fic!

Summary: Elle can't always protect Chuck, but she sure as hell tries.

Dear Yuletide Bunny--

I hope you’ll have fun with my (um, offbeat) requests this year. In general, I like character pieces, stuff that really gets into the psychology and the drama. I love stories that deal realistically with consequences. I love angst, and am not afraid of it being a little dark. No character death, no graphic rape, and please no shmoop or smarm. Also, please no second person, and no present tense. That drives me bonkers.

Without further ado, my requests:

SeaQuest DSV )

Traders )

Tin Man )

Jeeves and Wooster )

Hmm...in writing this up, I seem to have noticed a, um, theme in my requests. *hem* Well, I hope you find something interesting to work with, and good luck!

I received a wonderful story for Yuletide, as well:

1000 Lies and A Good Disguise by Vyola

It's a coda to the movie Constantine, and will leave a warm fuzzy feeling, while not being saccharine enough to make your teeth ache. And when I said "John Constantine makes pancakes for no one" in the prompt, I was being facetious. Honest.

Go! Read! Give the author some love!
