Another year, another Yuletide fic written at the absolute last minute. I used this as an assignment to rewatch the series, including venturing into season three, which I never watched in the initial airing, having given up somewhere between the sentient plants and the prehistoric crocodile in season two. (Let's just say I fully understand why Roy Scheider quit.) I stand by the first season, though, as solidly middle-of-the-road television. That world-building and those characters deserved so much better than they got.

Anyway. Fic!

Happy New Year!

What should I discover at 2:30 in the morning on the first day of 2008? Netflix has Seaquest 2032 for instant watching. (Don't ask me why I was looking.) Of all the benighted series I never thought would be made available for consumption--for good reason--this pretty much tops the list. This is the season where the crew is teleported into another galaxy where they fight a war with aliens (that need a giant submarine and a talking dolphin for their space battles, presumably) and then dropped back in the middle of a field ten years later. (The war, and the aliens, take place off screen, of course.) This is when even Roy Scheider said fuck no and left the series. This is Jonathan Brandis with greasy chin-length hair. This is where even I, who followed Lois and Clark through its frog-eating-clone-marrying, amnesiac-burlesque-hall-singing crack fest, gave up watching when it originally aired.

This is the season that I don't even think they tried showing in reruns, the season I was sure would never make it to DVD, and now here it all is!

No, I did not watch it at two in the morning. I waited until the afternoon. :)

It's also noteworthy that they have the current season of Heroes and it looks like all the Law and Orders (and Sliders, and Quantum Leap). They seem to be expanding their selection quite nicely.

Seaquest season 2 DVDs! Hurrah! I'd pretty much given up hope that these would ever come out.

Of course, the second season of Seaquest is excreble, only slightly better than Seaquest 2032 which I couldn't even bring myself to watch when it was on tv. But I'll get it anyway. It's a nostalgia thing.

Why does a show that aired when I was a preteen and is as yet unavailable in any commercial release have annoying teenybopper fans? Where did they come from?

I've spent over a hundred dollars on eBay acquiring just eight episodes of seaQuest DSV. It's not a readily downloadable show either - I've looked. Though it's coming out on DVD in December, it has been almost completely unavailable for over a decade, and I admit, it wasn't that great of a show in the first place. I expect a fandom like that to be anemic, but I don't expect it to be overrun by annoying rabid fangirls.

Is Jonathon Brandis that potent?

I have broken the spell of the power rangers and produced a drabble in another fandom. Yay, me. This one is in honor of all college roommates everywhere. Nothing compares with the torture that is a one-room double.

Title: Roomies
Author: Ivy
Synopsis: Bridger put Lucas and Piccolo in a room together? Sounds like a recipe for disaster to me. Second season
Disclaimers: Definitely not my characters.
