In my lectures on Tudor and Stuart England, I'm up to the British Civil War, which always makes me think of this:

And you know? That song mentions pretty much everything the last three lectures have discussed.

That song got me a perfect score on my AP European history exam. I will never forget it.

I've always remember Cromwell's birth and death dates because of it! Cromwell is of particular interest to me, since I'm descended from one of his uncles, who sat as a judge over Charles I, then fled to America when Charles II ascended. (There's a place in New Haven called Three Judges Cave, where he and two other parliamentarians spent a winter hiding from royalists.) So a branch of my family only came to the New World because of these events!

Also:
- A greater percentage of the British population was killed in the English Civil War (~3.8%) than in any other war, including WWI.
- When Cromwell attacked Ireland, he slaughtered roughly 600,000 people. In a country of 1.4 million.
