I am watching Becket. ...is there a non slash way to watch this film?

ETA: OMG this is the GAYEST FILM EVER. No really. You have Henry II saying, "I loved him! I still love him!" while clutching his heart and doubling over in pain. How else am I supposed to interpret that? This is not subtext! This is text!

The time being the twelfth century or the sixties?

The twelfth century. Henry considered Becket to be his equal and therefore like a beloved brother. Back then slash and brotherly love walked a thin line. Trust me if I hadn't studied the twelfth century ect I would think slash too.

(This is coming from someone who born in England and was once studying to be a ancient history teacher lol)

Given that it is not the most historically accurate of films, I'm inclined to interpret the fact that it is a love story as more to do with the playwright than the actual people.

Ha, I remember seeing that film ages ago and suspect this is the biggest reason why I enjoyed it.
