I lost my voice at rehearsal last night. And it's not because of the high C's - though those hurt. It's because there's a section where we whisper "Ha!" repeatedly for pages. And of course we had to rehearse this section repeatedly. You try projecting a "Ha!" unvoiced whisper that really kicks from the diaphragm for twenty minutes. It's better than crunches, I'm sure. After that I realized that not only had I given myself a stomach ache, but I'd completely shot my voice. I think I'm going to have to work on my technique.

This piece has the largest range of any piece I've sung, I think. It goes from F below middle C to the C above the treble staff - that's two and a half octaves. That's practically my entire range.

And I get to play a thundersheet. w00t.

No, this is the Tan Dun. It's "Death and Thunderstorm." I get to stand "like a troll" - composer's note - for the storm that signifies the death of Christ. Everyone else has to improvise "screams and sounds of grief."

And there was much wailing and gnashing of teeth.
