It's mesmerizing to watch the borders go back and forth. You can see where Sweden took over the Northern part of Europe, when Norway conquered England, and when the Holy Roman Empire went pbthththth.
I can't decide whether I wish they had a date counter or I'm glad they didn't. I did kind of enjoy trying to guess what century I was looking at by what I remembered about the borders.
It makes you realize how terrifying WWII was. Suddenly everything goes purple. Also, you forget how large Poland was for much of history.
If you watch it full screen, you can see the names of different countries. I like watching the Byzantine Empire waver and get smaller, then BAM! Ottoman empire.
It's just neat to watch the waves roll over central Europe, especially.
