Aug. 12th, 2010 09:39 pm- What the hell with the first elimination? First of all, it's not "auditioning to be on the show" if they're on the show and someone always goes home at the end of the first challenge. Second, the judges could not be more transparent in choosing to keep the interesting catastrophes around. I do not understand that elimination.
- Dear Mondo: Cry moar, emo boy.
- It seems like every time an English-as-a-second-language speaker is on a reality show, someone accuses them of "playing dumb" and pretending not to understand. It happpened to Ping, now people are saying the same thing about Casanova. Now, the guy's an ass. And he doesn't seem terribly inclined to listen to other peooples' opinions. But just because you can speak in one context and understand fine doesn't mean you understand perfectly in a different context, especially under a lot of pressure. So no, I don't assume that Casanova's faking. I liked that Nina translated for him. I find it totally plausible that he (and Ping) could misunderstand instructions and not ask for clarification. And it seems, I don't know, xenophobic that people always say, well they were talking before, so they must understand!
Holy shit! That was an elimination so unexpected I sometimes wonder if the judges are just messing with us. It seems like his dishes were legitimately awful, but the winner of the first quickfire is almost always in the finalists, so it's kind of shocking that he was knocked out halfway through.
It's also been kind of weird this season that Angelo and Kenny were assumed to be the ones to beat early on, and it seems like the rest of the chefs treat them that way, and they act that way. But, though Angelo's had a few wins, they've not really been dominating. In particular, Kenny's been in the middle a lot. And yet he was still acting like the one to beat. Weird. This whole season has been weirdly uninspiring, talent-wise.

Date: 2010-08-13 02:26 am (UTC)OMG--the "I have a debilitating attraction to boobs" guy. Jesus christ. There are straight male designers! And I don't think you get to claim to be at a disadvantage because you're straight in...any context, really.
I'm not sure I remembered last season beyond Seth Aaron. Uh...it was better than the season before that? Lifetime has not been good for this show.
Mondo's confessional where he was crying. I started rolling my eyes when he was saying that NO ONE CONNECTED WITH HIM (in the day and a half on a reality show), and then he launched into nobody loooooves me!!! And I love Valerie--she's so chipper. Hopefully she'll stay that way.

Date: 2010-08-13 02:29 am (UTC)THat guy! That creepy guy! I loved whichever one of them was all "I'm pretending to be his friend because he's clearly a deranged serial killer and I don't want him STABBING ME WITH HIS FABRIC SHEERS."

Date: 2010-08-14 01:35 am (UTC)I know, as one of the show blogs quipped "Styling is the new sewing."
