For those eagerly watching at home, the answers to my favorite characters meme. Unguessed answers in bold.

1 - Star Wars (original trilogy)
Biggs Darklighter
Told y'all it was obscure. This is Luke's childhood friend whose scenes were almost entirely cut from Episode IV, except for a few shots when he gets blown up in the Battle of Yavin. I chose him back when I became nutty about Star Wars (middle school) specifically because he was obscure. Only a true fan would even know who he was. If I was choosing a favorite character based on who I enjoyed watching the most, it would have to be Han, but that's not really the point, is it. Hell, I even made a paper bag puppet of Biggs at camp, then tried to get my counselor to answer to TK-421 or THX-1138.

2 - seaQuest DSV
Lt. Benjamin Krieg
For those unfamiliar with the show, Krieg is the wise-cracking supply officer played by John D'Aquino. His character was mostly for comic relief - always scheming, always weaseling out of things but getting caught in the end. He had the infamous sex talk with Jonathon Brandis' character Lucas (notice - Lucas is not my favorite and never was), and in my favorite episode got locked in his cabin with a few hundred pounds of fish poop. But for all the comedy, he did have a few moments of genuine-ness, mostly around his ex-wife. Too bad they axed the character after the first season, a harbinger of bad things to come.

3 - Xena
Joxer
The character I like in spite of the character. Joxer is one of the most annoying, grating characters ever created, but I will still watch the show just to watch Ted Raimi. I love Ted Raimi. Even more than Bruce Campbell, sometimes (sacrilege!).

4 - Firefly
Simon
From the moment he and his sister appeared in the pilot, I was sunk. In a show full of fascinating characters that I love, Simon and River are always the most interesting to me. Maybe it's just because I'm a younger sister, but the fact that Simon gave up everything important to him in life to try to save his sister, when it's not even clear that she can be saved, just gets me.

5 - ER
Dr. Kovac
Goran Visnjic is a beautiful man, but that's not the only reason I love Kovac. I came to the show late, and one of the first episode's I saw featured Kovac trying to save a hit-and-run victim. In the early days of his character, he was so overprotective of the integrity of families that when he first said his family was "taken" from him, it tore out your heart. Of course, they've done many things to undercut the initial appeal of Luka, and make him just as despicable a character as most of the rest of the cast, but I just don't watch any more.

6 - Buffy
Xander
I actually got into the Buffy fandom through the books, before watching the show (wierd I know!). Without even knowing what any of them looked like, Xander was my immediate favorite. For being the totally normal everyman in this collection of superpowered beings. He's the humanity of the show. And he's damn funny.

7 - Angel
Wesley
From an unpromising start in Buffy, Wesley has turned into the most complicated, fascinating and dynamic character on Angel. It doesn't hurt that he's one of the best actors. Rewatching seasons 1 and 2 you can clearly see his character progression. The attributes that would eventually turn him dark are always there, even in the buffoon. And I love him for that.

8 - Andromeda
Harper
I can't not love a wise cracking guy with a seriously vulnerable streak. And when you get him cornered, he gets more wise-ass. As one of the show's writers said, Harper is like tabasco sauce. You put just a little of him on a scene to spice things up.

9 - Star Trek: TNG
Data
Data is the mirror character, teaching us about the nature of humanity. Brent Spiner is brilliant as both Data and Lore (and I point to the episode "Masks" for the breadth of his talent) and has always been the most entertaining to watch.

10 - X-Men movieverse
Logan
Hugh.
Jackman.
That's it.

11 - Enterprise
Malcolm Reed
I don't have a particularly well thought out reason to like Malcolm, I just do. And I've always loved the scenes he shares with Trip (in, for once, a completely non-slashy way). My favorite episode is "Shuttlepod One," which is just the two of them. Maybe it's the accent.

12 - Smallville
Lex
Watching a character's path to evil can be fascinating, if handled right. And Michael Rosenbaum played the struggle within Lex heartbreakingly well from the first episode. It's so clear to see how he can have good intentions yet fall into evil deeds, how he tries to do the right but doesn't know how. The direction of the character has flagged coming into this season, but MR is the only reason I kept watching the show after the pilot and the only reason I still watch it.

13 - Alias
Jack Bristow
I might have to disqualify this one because I had a hard time picking, but since no one guessed, I suppose it's fine. First I liked Will, but he's not on the show anymore, and I love Marshall, but it really just comes down to Victor Garber. The only reason to watch the show anymore is the amazing talent that is Victor Garber. That being said, I don't watch the show anymore.

14 - Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers
[livejournal.com profile] katertoticus, I know you know this because I told you and we had a whole discussion about it. My only defense is that I started watching the show when it first came on (before Tommy) and just love Jason. I was twelve, what do you want? Sure Tommy has a more interesting character, but whatever. It's Power Rangers. So here's some appreciation for the much maligned and mostly ignored (even by the writers of the show) first leader of the rangers, the original red ranger.

Maybe I just love him for that amazing kick he does in the credits.

15 - Twin Peaks
Coop
Cooper makes this whole series worth watching. Such an attractive, intelligent, cheerful, seriously fucked up man. Between the sending tapes to the possibly fictional secretary Diane, practicing fly-fishing in his room in his boxers, picking suspects by throwing rocks at a glass bottle and being able to transition smoothly between waxing poetic about Douglas firs and prying slips of paper out from under a girl's fingernail, we have a winner. Even if his soul is destroyed in the end.

Star Trek: TNG

Data

Dude, yes! I didn't know that Data was on this particular Trek incarnation (or, that this was the Trek incarnation that Data was on). But he was definitely my favourite too.

Luka!

I didn't watch that much ER, so I never really caught a lot of stuff. But I always did like Luka...
