OMG this book is emo crack.
I am a hundred and fifty pages in and I have not yet encountered the plot. (The back cover description? So far bears no resemblance to what I am reading.) What I have encountered is lots and lots of description about how Vanyel is the most misunderstood boy ever ever ever and how everyone unjustly hates him and he just wants to be a bard and play pretty music. (There is a scene where he plays till his fingers bleed he is so emo.) Characters have even been introduced for one scene for the sole purpose of commenting on how misunderstood he is. An empathic character even says that, though he acts like a prick, he is “bleeding on the inside.”
It’s just…wow. Instant true love? Present. Yenta who takes far too much interest in hooking up two characters? Present. Um…voyeuristic use of mind reading to participate in sex? Present (but in strictly G-rated language). A character being forgiven all sorts of bad behavior because he is “bleeding on the inside?” Present.
*goes back for more*

And the level of hurt/comfort in Magic's Price is just staggering.
