I was just reading about the Constantine score on http://www.filmtracks.com (only the best soundtrack reviewing site on the web) and apparently there was this big studio controversy over it. To quote:

"the studio decided that Tyler's large-scale orchestral score lacked the pop and style that may have been underplayed in the film. Thus, the studio hired Media Ventures offspring Klaus Badelt, who, along with the usual team of assistants and ghostwriters (this is, of course, the man who caused Pirates of the Caribbean to be written by... seven... eight... nine people?), was responsible for 'enhancing' Tyler's music rather than replace it."

Badelt basically wrote over Tyler's score. That is not a recipe for success. I didn't notice during the film, but now I feel like getting the album just to listen to the train wreck. I love Media Ventures (Hans Zimmer, Klaus Badelt et al.), they do some great stuff (the Gladiator soundtrack being a prime example) but most of the time their scores do end up being rather homogeneous. They don't really stand up on their own. Ladies and gentlemen, the future of film scores.

I'll be honest and say I didn't notice the score at all. Maybe that's the point of the rant, but it wasn't at all memorable.

On the other hand, I did rather like "Passive" by A Perfect Circle. Always nice to hear from them.

And methinks I smell an obsession with this movie. Might we be seeing the fanfiction from this soon?

You wrote a Hellblazer fic? Oh, I totally need to read this.

Well, it's a Constantine fic and there are definite differences in the backstories of the two (like, say, that Chas is 18 in the movie). But you read through my PR fic, so you could probably take it. It's better than the PR, I swear.

Cool. Is this a Constantine or a Hellblazer story? I assume you, of all people, would know there's a huge difference--I mean, how could you be friends with Chuck and not know that, right?

I'm all for a Constantine story, especially if you can make him more of a bastard than the movie managed. He was mostly grumpy in it. I was looking for asshole.

Well then it should make you happy. It's Constantine, very angsty, and he's a real bastard in it. I'm going through it with my beta right now, then I'll post it in my lj.
