Since no one would go with me *glares*, I just went to a matinee of Fast & Furious at the mall. Going to matinees at this mall is generally a bad idea. This did not disappoint.

I showed up early to what Yahoo movies told me was a 1:30 screening. Oh, they were totally wrong. It was a 1 o'clock screening. I figure I'll just've missed the previews and rush into the theater. Where it is pitch black. I mean completely pitch black. House lights were down, no ads up on the screen, though I could hear the clicking of a slide projector. I couldn't even tell if anyone else was in there and had to find a seat by feel. Once my eyes adjusted, I could see that there were a couple of teenagers in there, probably playing hookie. Time passes. Everyone sits in the dark. I'm just about to get up and yell at someone to start the damn movie when the previews start--for ten seconds. Then the rotating ads come on. Then the house lights come up. Then we wait another five minutes. Then the previews start again, but the house lights stay on. So turns out 1:30 actually was the start time of the movie, all told.

My one-sentence review of Fast and Furious: Entertainingly forgettable action flick. But it makes me want to watch the original again.

There must be fic already. Can anyone point me at some?

I blame myself for your having to go alone! Anyway, ask linaerys for some fic. (Or svilleficrecs, since, I think she put it as "I would like to lesbian with Michelle Rodriguez.")

I'm with you though--fun, totally silly in every way, and mostly it made me want to watch the first movie again. Because, really, it had more Michelle Rodriguez and shirtless guys. I'm all in favor of shirtlessness, especially where Vin Diesel is concerned.

Next Diesel-related showing, I'm there with you!

It is all your fault! No, I don't think I even told you I was interested. I do love Vin Diesel, but he's been in some crap films. And when you see a movie of his in the theater, you can't rewind and put on the subtitles when he mumbles. (The car what? It's what?)

I thought in this that they did a good job of creating a believable premise for reuniting the guys, though, like with the fourth Indiana Jones, any kind of exploration of that, or of the characters, was ditched in favor of action. Not a choice I can really blame them for, though.

I totally called two things: When Letty showed up, I expected her to die in the heist to provide tragic motivation. Well, I didn't get the timing right, but I did call that she was going to eat it. And, when they used the tunnels, clearly showing all the branchings and dead ends, I knew they'd have to go back there for another action sequence.

Okay, three things. I totally called who Bargas was. But it's not like I'm watching this for the plot.

See, I was the opposite way with Michelle Rodriguez. (Her character has a name? Whoa.) My youngest sister and I found out she was dead and were like, "Nuh-uh." Then we made jokes--based on some we'd made in the car about liking her since Resident Evil--about how this paved the way for her to come back as a zombie, which is the only way she was more awesome.

Then she was really dead and we were all really bummed out. But we did call the Ra's al-Ghul switcheroo.

As for Vin Diesel--his rumblings are amazing, but they have the slightly problematic effect of being sleep-inducing if they go on, uninterrupted for too long.

When Dom got the call that Letty was dead, I was like, who's that? Cause I assumed it was the girlfriend calling... I haven't gotten the original from Netflix yet, so I haven't watched it recently enough to remember character names. Good thing for me they showed a photo at the funeral.

I suppose it's not worth watching the other two films? I mean, action and fast cars is fun, but let's face it. I watch for Vin. And the, uh...chemistry he has with people.

Also, the previews were awesome. I am so excited by Wolverine. It looks like it might actually be cool. And if it isn't, at least there's a lot of hot men to distract me. And I totally have to see Public Enemies. Christian Bale and gangster Johnny Depp? Yum. With that and Star Trek, it'll be a fun summer.

I don't know if the other two movies are worth it. My mother seems to have watched one because my sister's loser ex tried to "drift" like he saw in the movies and wrecked his car. (Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy.) The trailers pretty much covered the highlights, or so I assumed. I doubt you need to watch the movies.

Vin Diesel has tremendous chemistry with people. Unfortunately, his most direct opposite in The Fast and the Furious franchise has been Paul Walker. Paul Walker is another graduate of the Keanu Reeves' School of Whoa. Meaning there are billboards with his face on it that emote better than he does. Vin tries, but yeesh.

Wolverine will be fun, if nothing else, much like Fast & Furious. And yes, choc-a-bloc with the pretty. (Liev Schrieber...Ryan Reynolds...whoeverthatisplaying Gambit ::drools::) Let's do go see Public Enemies. Johnny Depp's a tad old to be Dillinger, but otherwise, he seems spot-on for the part.

Star Trek is the only place I hesitate. Early viewers raved, but I'm still skeptical. We've been watch TOS at our place recently. For all that it's dated and outsized, it's incredibly endearing. I have a hard time imagining the new version will be as true to that, much less actually good on its own merits.

Since we share the same, ahem, accord with regard to Mr. Diesel and His Amazing Kryptonics, stick with the first movie only; don't bother with #2 or #3.

Part of me was disappointed that Dom and Brian in this movie were so adversarial in their scenes. I mean really, at the end of the first one, I thought they might kiss and clench good-bye, fer cryin' out loud. (Alas, I was wrong, but you know there are slasher ways around that little issue.)

Paul is just beeyoutiful, a perfect surfer-dude contrast to Vin's multi-ethnic vibe and imperfections. And they do have chemistry, which I must confirm by going to see the movie again.

And quite possibly again after that. :) Tee hee hee!

There was a plot in this movie? OMG, totally went over my head.
