Colbert wins a NASA contest to name a room on the space station after himself. I did try to vote for Colbert, too, but the page just wouldn't load for me. :(

"NASA reserves the right to choose an appropriate name."

This is what happens when write-in votes and a huge geek with a large fanbase collide.

I don't think they suggested that because of Firefly. :) It might still be the name, though. IIRC, it was the most popular NASA name.

I love how Colbert gets a kick out of throwing his fanbase around. And I'm happy to go along, since he always does it with a kind of wink that it's absurd that one person should be able to game the system this much.

Dude! Colbert won fair and square :-P He's lost out on that bridge and something else. Something should be floating around in space with his name on it! NASA can't change the rules of the game now... boo on them.

The rules always said NASA had discretion. I just don't think they really expected a major write-in campaign.

Apparently none of them watch the Colbert Report, since he has a habit of doing this kind of stuff, as we well know. But, being NASA nerds who live in their own little world, I suppose that shouldn't be a surprise. :-P
