ivyficThis weekend, in between seeing Wall-E, going to an archery range (from which I have a lovely bruise on my arm—"If you have proper technique you don't need an armguard" my ass), and seeing Eddie Izzard, I finished watching Twin Peaks. Since the back half of season two pretty much sucks, I was entertaining myself by constructing a Twin Peaks/Supernatural crossover.
After the end of the series, I picture Dale becoming kind of like the Log Lady—just this crazy guy who lives out in a cabin in the woods. And because I'm mostly a Dale/Albert shipper, Albert leaves the FBI and becomes an ME at some nearby metropolis and comes out to check on Dale a couple of times a week. Audrey, of course, takes over all the Horne businesses, probably in a coup that unseats her father. (And I think she has a brief but disastrous marriage with Jack Wheeler.) And at just about this point, I was thinking about bringing the Winchesters in to solve the mystery of the evil in those woods. They could run into Dale who'd have crazy visions about Sam, and steal some of his tapes, which he'd have boxes and boxes of, all addressed to Diane, to fill in some of the exposition.
Now here's the problem. I'd want the plot to be Sam and Dean taking Dale back to the Black Lodge where he'd reclaim his soul, or part of his soul, depending on how you interpret the last episode. (And reveal something about how Dale was able to fight off Bob, who took up residence in Sherrif Truman and has been living in him for the past twenty years—come on, it makes perfect sense. Harry was the only other person out there in the woods that night.)
But—from many hints in the show, we know Dale's soul is still in the Black Lodge 25 years in the future. That's the old self he sees in the dream, and it's that self that comes back to free Laura Palmer's soul in Fire Walk With Me. So, assuming that those years are in reference to time passing in the real world, that would mean Dale's soul would have to be there until at least 2014. So in order to cross it over with Supernatural, I'd either have to make them not rescue Dale or have to extrapolate into the future of that show as well…and that's about where I get tired just thinking about pulling off a story like this. Ah, well.
