It always makes me cry. Every time. When he gets that line about he said Hope, she said Grace. Wah! Oh, Richard. It's the only 9/11 song I've ever heard that didn't feel weirdly exploitative or insensitive.
I'll never forget the first time I heard it--I saw him play a while before that CD was released, and when it got to the line about the rain coming down shivers went all through my body. I even got up the nerve after to pin him down and tell him how much I loved the song. ;)
I saw him perform this in NY a few years ago. My friend sydni_64 is a crazy huge fan of Richard--I don't know how many times she's seen him, but she gets him to sign something every time. At this point, I he sees her in the crowd and says, "Hey! !" and comes over. So I've talked to him a couple of times. Did you know he hangs out on his own yahoo email list?
