This will probably only make sense to Princetonians, but I think I've found out what "SFC" stands for.

(The Princeton Nassoons, the oldest a cappella group on campus, has this thing about the letters SFC. They will absolutely not tell anyone outside of the group what it means though they assure us that it's really not all that interesting. Yet it's splashed all over their apparel and such. Like a secret handshake or something.)

I was reading the liner notes to their 2000 album, and their, printed in inauspicious italics was:

Semper in Fraternitatem Credemus

So there you have it, SFC. I always thought it stood for "So fuckin' cool," but I guess that wouldn't have fit in 1941 when they were founded. Now if only I knew what that meant. Any Latin scholars out there want to take a crack at it?

ETA: I have been informed it translates as "We shall always believe in brotherhood" - fitting. And just proving that a cappella groups are really just fraternities and sororities where you sing.

Another mystery of the universe solved!

(...actually, I had been mildly curious about that since I found out about it mid-sophomore year.)

Apparently, according to a Nassoon hubby of a former Wildcat, that is not what SFC stands for. That is a red herring. Now, for them to create a grammatical, understandable and entirely plausible Latin motto with the initials to SFC to hide the fact that it is probably something as dumb as "so fucking cool" (which I still think is the real SFC) is just sad. Sad, sad, sad.
