Here's one for you, [livejournal.com profile] feiran. This morning, the guy sitting in front of me on the subway was reading Strunk and White's Elements of Style. When I saw the title, I cracked up. I think the guy noticed. :)

What's so funny? Everyone who is literate (or claims to be) should read Strunk & White.

It just seems like weird subway reading.

Speaking of which, your dad recommended two books out of the ones he was throwing out. The first was a delightful semi-cozy mystery. The second is a collection of short stories whose opener is from the point of view of a kid who grows up to be a serial killer. Graphic and horrific. I was nauseated and upset and ended up staring at the subway wall rather than reading the next. Gah. I need to find a book somewhere in the museum to read on the way home, because I'm not finishing that one. This is the first time I've not finished a book in a really long time. Still feel creeped out.

I'm assuming by "your" you mean chuckro's. Cause if my dad was sending you books, that would be ... weird.

I can give you "The Naked Marquis" on Wednesday. :) That one definitely won't be disturbing.

Yes, I did.

I'd love "The Naked Marquis". Whether I have the courage to read it on the subway is an entirely different matter...

That collection already sounds like something I would like. What was it called?

If that story disturbed Jethrien that much, I suspect you can have our copy of whatever it was.

"House Without Doors", Peter Straub. It's apparently a short story about a character from one of his novels, or something. Some of the others might be standalone (this works as a standalone, it's just something I found completely unenjoyable). But I'm done.

Would you like it?

I'd love to borrow it. Cheers and thank you.

Sorry, I guess. I don't think I was even paying attention when you went through the donation box.

Not your fault.

The annoying thing is that I've been keeping track of books I've read this year, and this one won't count because I'm not going to finish it.

Actually, it's a really fun read...
