Jeffrey Dean Morgan was born to play romantic lead. I don't usually like romantic comedies (oh, the questionable gender politics, let me count the ways), but I definitely can't wait to see this. I never thought I'd want Colin Firth to lose the girl.

Yeah, from just the trailer I spotted:
1 - Stalking a woman and hacking her social security out of spite is a good way to find true love
2 - Getting a girl too drunk to stand is a perfect first date
3 - Effeminate men don't deserve women
4 - Frigid women just need the love of a good man to loosen up
5 - Only a rugged man-child (words from the trailer!) is a real man
6 - Women should totally fall for rugged men-children (man-children? men-child?) who stalk and humiliate them

However, Jeffrey Dean Morgan is damn hot and charming and a fireman and gah.

And here again is why I like slash--if this story were about two men (or two women, but we all know what I'd prefer to watch), it wouldn't bother me at all. Because then it wouldn't be about the role of men and women in sociey and wouldn't be part of a cultural dialogue about how men should treat women and would just be a sappy, slightly ridiculous romantic story. It's so much easier when you don't have to react as a feminist.

It is easier not to be a feminist. But that's why we have to do it. Poor Colin Firth and Uma Thurman. Neither of them deserves this, especially not Uma after she did The Truth About Cats and Dogs which totally ripped this shit a new one.
