It's true. James Marsters makes everything better. Not good, necessarily, but better.

If Torchwood continues in this vein for the rest of the season it might just cross over into guilty pleasure from excruciatingly painful to watch. The sap's still there, but the characters didn't act completely irrationally this time around, that's all I'm saying.

Agree with all you say - I particularly enjoyed the jack and Ianto office secene. If only all the series was that good.

Yeah--it was a slash fic on screen! The best I can figure for Jack's motivation is that he'll try to fuck whoever he's talking to at any given moment, but it seems like Ianto's the only one he wants to actually be involved with. And it doesn't seem like Ianto's okay with Jack fucking everybody else. So if they actually have Ianto and Jack work through those difficulties in their relationship, I'd be a happy camper. ... Not that I really believe they'll do that.

Also, Owen didn't piss me off, Tosh wasn't too annoying. Gwen, though. Still. Man I can't stand her. It bothers me fundamentally that they want Gwen to be the moral compass of the group when she essentially treats Rhys like a pet dog that she's trained to do house chores.

And there's more James Marsters to look forward. And maybe some Jack backstory. I can always hope they'll actually address that missing memory from way back when he was first on Doctor Who.

I agree with much of what you say in re the Jack/Ianto dynamic. Jack has changed, no doubt, but the omnisexual bit is still there. He has the ability to have a deeper relationship (the land girl whose name escapes me) and to be bashful/tentative (as with the real Captain Jack) but at heart he's Jack. What I find interesting (and perhaps I am looking for more consistency/development than there is in a programme which sometimes seems a bit thrown together) is that we've gone to a first encounter which was Ianto blatantly propositioning Jack over a dead body to a hesitant Jack asking Ianto out almost on a first date. Intiguing (at least in my mind).

It seems like Jack's way of saying "Oops! I kind of fucked up here, abadoning everyone and all." Of course, Ianto's response is more along the lines of "anytime, anywhere, but I'm not letting you fuck me on the photocopier."

It's so cute! And since one of my favorite slash plotlines is fuck-buddies-turn-into-something-more, I really hope they continue in this vein.

It was amusing in parts. Still not what I'd hoped, but I suppose you can't reverse a show's direction in a single episode.

I wasn't quite poking my eyes out, but I was checking to make sure I had blunt implements available, just in case. :) But of course I don't go in for the slash fic thing, so obviously that colors my appreciation (or lack thereof) of the show.
