I think Jared and Jensen win the award for worst commentary ever. Here's a hint boys: when you record an episode commentary, you're supposed to talk, not silently watch the episode.
That's the one. I was surprised that Kim Manners didn't jump in either. In a lot of commentaries, people will talk about the fact that they should be talking. Here, they just...don't. I don't know. It was weird. I mean--especially for Jensen. It was a big episode for him and he had nothing to say about it.
Of course, if we're talking bad commentaries, I'd point to SG-1. After season 4, every episode had a commentary. Some are just Peter DeLuise and Gary Jones shootin' the shit, regardless whether DeLuise directed or Jones was in the episode. I mean, they just talk about Jones's latest play or whatever. And there are other commentaries where it's just the DP talking about what lens he used.
For my money the best commentaries are the SGA cast, the hobbits, Kiera Knightly and Jack Davenport, and Joss Whedon.
I thought that Jensen and Jared's thoughts on the body double were amusing, though I suppose someone wandering around pretending to be you wearing a closed-eye mask of your face would rather strange. The behind-the-camera people made better comments, though.
All of the LotR commentaries are good, whether it's the hobbits or PJ or the set designers.
SGA cast is good, except JF, who doesn't seem to have any clue about what he's doing in them.
