I've really enjoyed using my Palm Z22 for that. If you use the mobipocket reader and the free creator to convert the stories, you come up with something quite readable and it's a relatively comfortable read, but since it's the size of a deck of cards, it's on the small end of that zone. Something paperback book size would be just right. A little smaller, then with the case have it be paperback book size.
I was reading Waiting Games for the forty billionth time on my commute yesterday and it really did pass the time. (and is, btw, less than $100.)
But the Sony Reader is so cool. And in my career, I could almost justify it.
And yes, this is from the person who has a Dell DJ instead of an iPod because it had more hard drive for the money. But the Dell DJ is pretty fugly by comparison.
On this one thing, though, I'm going purely on aesthetics. The Sony Reader looks sooo nice. And that screen technology! It reads like paper! *love*
