Sorry to be spamming today, but think of this as making up for a weekend of no posting access.

I saw an ad for Kevin Sorbo's new action-adventure series: Avenging Angel. On the Hallmark channel. The premise is Sorbo was a preacher in the wild west, his family was murdered, and now he's out for revenge.

I think I've seen this show before. It was called Hercules. And Andromeda. Yes, one's a fantasy, one's sci fi, and the new one's a western, but to Kevin Sorbo, genre doesn't matter so much because he always plays the same damn character. And I say this as a fan of both Hercules and Andromeda. What do you want to bet he walks around the new show making sarcastic quips and effortlessly defeating bad guys. Please, Kevin, please prove me wrong here.

When I saw the ad my first thought was finally they gave him a show were he can do exactly what he always does without anyone asking any more of him.

(And yes I know that this icon isn't Kevin--I don't have any of him. But it is his co-star from Hercules doing a guest spot on Andromeda, so close enough.)

When I read the subject line of that post I assumed you were going to be talking about a sorbet-making machine. And my little heart went pitter-pat.

That would be cool, but sadly, no.

Ugh... Sorbo took a great premise and ruined it. The first season of Andromeda was nifty cool with actually paying attention to the lightspeed limit! And he wrecked it! So not forgiving him1

No kidding. I actually forced myself through the entire fifth season of Andromeda, and...I just can't forgive anyone involved with that.

It isn't a series...its a movie...there is some talk of a sequel.

Ah. Only saw the one ad. In small doses, it might be cool. I mean, Andromeda kicked ass in the beginning. Before Sorbo became the EP (not that it was all his fault--it takes a lot of people to screw up a show that badly, but still).

You are not alone believing he was responsible many others thought that too at Exile board but they are realizing according to Jill Sherwood that it was Tribune mostly responsible...

I like Sorbo way more than I really have any reason to, but what can I say. It's something about that one character he plays--the plucky hero with a keen sense of justice and a naive hope for the future. hee

I'll totally be tuning in to Avenging Angel.

Oh, perfectly understandable. If you like the one character he plays, no reason not to watch. I remember starting to watch Hercules and really enjoying that flippant take on the character. And then you realize that's all he does...

And you know, even after saying all this, assuming I get my cable set up someday, I'll probably watch. :)

oh kevin, kevin - and to think, if he'd gotten the role of clark on "lois and clark" he could have done the same with that too! :-P didn't he guest on "dharma and greg"? i don't think it had anything to do with families dying - he was the guy with whom she cheated on greg (i don't know if the grammar of that sentence was correct, but you know what i mean :-P)

Don't really watch dharma and greg, so don't know. Dean Cain's kind of a one-note meathead, so I'm not sure it would have been all that different with Sorbo. Except I had a HUGE crush on Dean Cain.

So like a much lamer version of the Saint of Killers from Preacher. Yeesh.

Um, don't know that, but it sounds similar to a lot of things.

The character has a similar back-story (set in the Old West and all) only his involves becoming a total murdering badass and as I recall, killing Satan. The Saint of Killers is one bad mofo.

There's something wrong about Kevin Sorbo. I can't put my finger on it. But the wrong-ness of him make Hercules hard to watch (always was a Xena fan, never really got into Hercules). The thought of him teaming up with the stupid genre (sorry, leftover bitterness)...::shudder::

Well, you know why I like Hercules.
