I went with [livejournal.com profile] trakkie and a few other friends to see "Edward Scissorhands" the ballet at BAM last night. I enjoyed it quite a lot. It reminded me of how much I love that score (which I'm listening to again now), and would have been worth it just for the orchestral performance of the music. It's a movie that lends itself to adaptation as a ballet. Since it's a fable, everything is painted in broad stereotypes--the metaphors here are not subtle. I usually feel when I'm watching a ballet that I have no idea what's going on on stage, but since I'd seen the movie, that wasn't a problem here. Also, some of the best parts of the film come from Edward's physical awkwardness, which translates beautifully.

There was also a kid in a pumpkin costume that was the most adorable thing ever (except maybe for the dancing robot I linked this morning).

The downside: we were sitting in front of about thirty middle school girls who were not being supervised by their chaperones. They were climbing over the seats and gave a color commentary of the whole performance. In fact, they insulted one of my friends when she asked them to be quiet. Lovely. And of the four of us, I was the only one with a (mostly) unobstructed view, but that may have been just because I'm taller. Yay cheap seats!
