Don't you just hate it when you start a great (if maudlin and badly punctuated) fanfic novel and halfway through one of the characters changes identities and becomes a pulp fiction writer and then the next twenty pages are an "excerpt" of this character's detective novel? Yeah, I hate that.

Did the author get the collected works of Raymond Chandler for XMas?

God, I don't know. It's a post-TSbBS Sentinel story, with the typical Blair-runs-away-because-he-can't-face-his-guilt plot, and he just, like, became a writer! And got published! The hell? Why do I care about the detective novel this fanfic author has written and decided to shoe-horn into the middle of a Sentinel story?

Hee. Have you finished it yet? Perhaps she wraps it all up in the end? *hope springs eternal in the fannish breast*

There is no shame in it. ;) We've all (of us in fandom) been there.

And is it wrong of me that what bothers me the most is not that this story has suddenly jumped the rails and become absurd, but that the author has completely gotten everything about book publishing wrong?

Considering what you do, no. :P

I just spent like ten minutes looking at this post and asking myself, which character could that be? Sam? Rodney? Hercules?

That would be hilarious if it was Hercules. It was Blair, in a Sentinel story, which just got worse and worse after that. Blair going on random tangents about polar ice caps! Blair being agoraphobic! Jim losing weight because he's so sick at heart!

I personally have a problem with stories that show the two characters (any two characters) as being completely non-functional without each other, especially if they broke up in as passive-aggressive a way as this story. Come on, if these people were that pathetic, I wouldn't be watching the show.
