1. What type of fannish interaction do you prefer: conventions, smaller in-person gatherings, mailing lists, newsgroups, blogs/journals, IRC?

I'd have to say face to face, but the chances of me bumping into people with Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers' fixations (and Jason fans at that) are so slim that I tend to blogs and mailing lists.

2. Are you always upset when your show gets canceled or have you ever been (not so) secretly relieved?

Usually not because usually it's jumped the shark by then. Case in point - X-Files. However, there are some cancelations recently that annoy me, like, say, Angel. Basically my frustration is directly proportional to the amount of series continuity that is resolved in the finale. ST:TNG has I think the best final episode I've seen, so even though it was still going strong, I don't mind. Pretender had such a crappy closer I was depressed for a week. My God, the man's been searching for his mother for four years, he needs a hug. And does he get it? Noooo.... (am stopping before full-fledged rant kicks in)

3. Do you find icons an integral part of lj'ing or would you be just as happy with one icon as with fifty?

I like other people's, don't really work on mine. Between no real photo shop and paralysing fear of accidentally plagiarising, I'll stick with the ones I have.

4. Do you prefer to read fanfic in zines or online?

Online. Because I can do it at work and it looks like I'm working. (Oh, wait, maybe I shouldn't have said that...)

5. Do you consider yourself FIAWOL* (fandom is a way of life) or FIJAGDH* (fandom is just a goddamn hobby)?

Let's see... I'm trying to make a career out of editing media tie-in novels. I'd say FIAWOL.

Ha! I have four minutes left till it's saturday!

Inner Sense was the worst episode EVER. Where was Margaret? Not in that damn subway tunnel, that's for sure. I would actually like to hear your full-fledged rant some day, if you're up to it. But it can definitely wait. Of course, if you're talking about Island of the Haunted, then I should keep my mouth shut, because I've never seen it. I was too damn scared of it, and too embarrassed to ask my relatives to tape it for me. Now that's bad.

I am indeed refering to Island of the Haunted. I won't spoil it for you, but I'll just say it's one of the biggest and stupidest ret-con's I've ever seen. I hate that the producers were given four hours of TV movies after the show was cancelled, and instead of resolving things they spun out these stupid stories. Such a wasted opportunities. And I know from reading the producer's website (which I believe is no longer up) that they believed they would be able to continue to make Pretender so they deliberately didn't resolve things. Producers deluding themselves is no reason to screw over the fans.

As for the campy plots of pretender I think you mentioned in one of your other posts (i.e. what should we do for sweeps this year - I know, let's have another sibling), I think the writers were suffering from Samantha syndrome (a la Chris Carter). Katherine Parker commited suicide. No, she was murdered. No, she didn't really die, she was pregnant and gave birth to Jarod's half-brother.... Pick one story and stick with it. Shows that work introduce a mystery like this, spin it out for a season or so, resolve it, then introduce another mystery. Shows that don't work are so in love with their initial set-up they refuse to resolve things. Eventually, the fans feel like their being strung along and get bitter and mean.

But anyway, yes, I still love Pretender, despite its inconsistencies. Probably because despite all this nonsense, they continued to deliver good Jarod stories that made wading through the mess that was the Centre worth it.
