In a fit of procrastination today, I looked up a list of all the winners of the best picture Oscar, to see how many I'd seen. Turns out, not that many. The funny thing, though, is that the decade from which I've seen the most is the sixties. I've seen seven out of ten (Oliver!, Sound of Music, My Fair Lady, West Side Story, The Apartment, Tom Jones, and A Man for All Seasons). Compare that to only 3 for the eighties, four and a half for the nineties (the half is English Patient, which I've seen the second tape of twice, and don't really care to see the rest), and five for the current decade.
I think this just means my parents really like sixties cinema and exposed me to a lot of it. Also, the type of movies that used to win Best Picture are more my speed than the ones that win now. Musicals and comedies! Gasp!
ETA: Also, 1997 is the only year for which I've seen all of the nominees.
