(no subject)
Jul. 2nd, 2006 10:11 pmI've spent the last three days cleaning and unpacking (finally) all the boxes from my last move (two years ago), and some that I packed when I graduated (three years ago) and had not touched since. ( Here are some of the things I found )
The sad thing is I can remember the thought process for saving each and every one of these things (except for the wooden cube that said "disco" on it -- I don't know where that came from). A lot of the crap I own I've kept because I moved once a year for nine years. This makes keeping a dozen extension cords and all the original boxes for things logical; after all, if I have to pack this shit up again, it'll survive the trip better in the original packaging, and you never know how many outlets your next dorm room will have. So I've been accumulating all this stuff with the philisophy of well, I had to use this once, and if I don't need it now, I might in the next move. Which all seems superfluous now that I have no immediate plans to move.
I seem to have a complete block on throwing out old electronics, though. I just can't make myself do it. I remember how much these cost, and keep thinking they might be useful. So I actually still have the headphones, speakers, walkmen and discmen. Cause who knows when I'll need two discmen in the future (one of which skips if you breathe on it - hence the second one). Yeah. I did throw out the cell phone, but probably only because it will not turn on for love or money. Plus, it was free in the first place.
Sheesh.
Compared to my early years, I'm still a light weight on the pack rat scale. You should have seen my first dorm room.
