I got the DVD of Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker (uncensored!) last night. We will definitely have to have a viewing of this, for those familiar with the animated Bat franchise, and those who are not - trust me, you're in for a treat.

I put the commentary track on while I was cleaning. It has about six people on it, including Paul Dini and the director. What's interesting about the commentary was that it was made in 2000 a week before the video's release -- which means it was made before Warner Brothers made them completely change the movie for US release (hence the uncensored comment above). So they are all talking about the questionable content of certain scenes, which I know were later removed, even though they didn't know that would be their fate.

The other amusing bit is at certain points in the movie (those of you who've seen it can probably guess which), Paul Dini, who wrote it, will stop and say, "that's just...wrong. That's so, so wrong." And all the other people there will say, "You're sick, Paul. Seriously. You need professional help."

If that's not enough to make newbies want to watch it, check out the cast: Mark Hammill, Dean Stockwell, Angie Harmon, Melissa Joan Hart, and Michael Rosenbaum doing his Christopher Walken impression. Plus, of course, Kevin Conroy and Will Friedle. Quality stuff.

i wanna see it! boo, i'm in london. :-P btw, i saw "fantastic four" a few nights ago - what a FANTASTICALLY BAD MOVIE. i mean, within five minutes i was like, what is GOING ON?! the story was bad, the acting was bad, the writing was bad, everything was bad, and i'm not even talking about how it related to the actual comic (which i know very little about). PLOT HOLES EVERYWHERE. you were right in your review earlier, when you commented that you didn't know how michael chiklis' character could so easily turn on his friends - he really had no reason whatsoever. i loved the whole gratuitous "oh let's have jessica alba take off her clothes in public....twice!" at least i didn't pay to see it. thank goodness, i would have felt guilty spending that money on something so awful, esp since the pound is now exactly twice the dollar. :-P and they're making a sequel....oh save us. and have you seen the previews for the new superman movie?! it looks TERRIBLE, except for perhaps kevin spacey in megalomaniacal fine form as lex luthor - but kate bosworth as lois lane? and who IS the guy they chose for superman/clark? i think i'd rather watch "lois and clark" than this. :-P anything else? oh, reviews for da vinci code not so hot, although, i hardly think that will matter for the film's box office success. bring on tom hanks' mullet! :-P

Moan, moan, moan. For the record, I have faith in the new Superman movie. (Christopher Reeve was practically an unknown when he did his first Superman film, and he became iconic. Who cares if the new guy is a nobody?)

And I thought Fantastic Four was stupid and fun. Better than Catwoman, certainly, and I enjoyed it more than The Hulk.

I finally got rid of my censored DVD when I moved, after realizing I really would never watch it again. Not only is the alternate footage ridiculous, but the movie's in fullscreen! I was so glad when they released the original film on DVD, because I only had a poor quality VHS version, which I still preferred to watch over the edited film.

I only had a corrupted file on my computer that would get progressively more out of sync until you had to restart the movie and cue it up again in the middle. This had to be done about three times during the film. I hardly even noticed that though until I showed it to someone else and they complained. For me, it was still worth it, and better than buying the edited version, which was the only one available at the time.
