ivyfic: (inconsiderate spoiler man)
[personal profile] ivyfic
I took two days off from work because I ostensibly needed to get some freelance work done. What I have done instead:
-Watched the rest of BSG season 2.0, which means I'm screwed for new episodes until September, when they release the rest of them on DVD.
-Bought groceries.
-Designed a webpage. I've been meaning to do this forever, true, but the fact that I'm doing it now is a direct result of knowing that I absolutely don't have the time to dick around like this right now.
-Discovered that even online retailers are out of Ciba Vision contact lens solution, even though the company's website has no indication that nothing is amiss
-Tried to take a shower only to discover that my bathtub had backed up with crud, then had to call the handyman and wait around for an hour while he did horrible sounding (and smelling) things to it. He tells me it's fixed. I'm not sure I believe him.

The icon is in honor of a particular fan at I-con. Those of you with me at the con know exactly what I'm talking about. For those of you fortunate not to have seen this poor pock-marked teenage boy hiding behind a V for Vendetta mask, here's a sample of things he said on a panel on worldbuilding:

"Do you as writers appreciate when fans come up to you at a con and say oh my god you so totally got that wrong I mean it's like in Star Trek Voyager when they said at the beginning they only had thirty torpedos and ten shuttles and they weren't going to be getting any more but then by the end of like season four they used twenty shuttles and ninety torpedos and we're all like what because how could you get any more you're in a different galaxy or like in Battlestar Galactica when in the novelization it says that the word on the side of Commander Adama's shuttle is 'Husker' when it's actually 'Husher' because it's like Battlestar Galactica script it's an h not a k and why the hell did you say that you had to take the engines out of the vipers that was just stupid and it didn't make any sense and they didn't say that in the TV show..."

And so on. All of this was said at top volume, with a lot of intensity, and, as far as I could tell, no pause for breath. And it was said to the author of the novelization of the Battlestar Galactica mini-series. And while V is going on and on and on, I've got my head in my hands and [livejournal.com profile] chuckro is miming throwing a juice box at the back of his head. Fortunately for us, Terry Brooks (I am tempted to go and read his books now, just for doing this) cut him off, politely answered his question while wink-winking at the rest of us as to what a psycho this guy was, then didn't call on him again.

Apparently in a previous panel that [livejournal.com profile] jethrien and [livejournal.com profile] feiran attended, this selfsame fan spouted spoilers for Battlestar Galactica season three, with no warning and no awareness that most of us do not wish to be spoiled for a show that will not air until October. [livejournal.com profile] feiran, my heart bleeds for you, it does. I hope that this oblivious dickwad had a completely unreliable source and none of what he said will come to pass.

I will surely post more about I-Con, but I need to go clean the crud out of my tub now.

*sigh*

Hee! I was going to make an image of V going BLAH BLAH RAR BLAH RARAR, but I like your icon much better. :-D

Damn, that guy was annoying.

As did I. I even looked up one of the ads online to make sure I got the jingle worded properly.

This did not help with the spelling, apparently.

Who was that cunning mind behind that shadowy disguise?

Only, I meant something that sounds like "cunning."

I mentioned it before but maybe you aren't interested--you're welcome to borrow the rest of BSG Season 2 on DVD from me. Or you can wait until September.

One of the panelists in the previous panel actually said something about the fact that she lived in a country that wasn't airing BSG and that she hadn't seen it, and asked him to stop spoiling things. And he kept right on spouting spoilers!

How do you like my recall of his diatribe? Pretty accurate, right?

Frighteningly so. Although it didn't quite capture the total experience - but I don't think that can be done by sane people.
