I am extremely late to this train, but I finally saw Wicked on Broadway, through a work event. (Which also meant it was fantastic seats.) I read the book an age ago, but hadn't watched any version of it.

Wow that is an unfocused mess of a musical, isn't it? There is so much plot happening in every scene--and then you hit "Defying Gravity" or "For Good" and tears are streaming down my face and I'm like, this is the best musical ever written.

Also, wow is that incredibly gay.

So glad for you!

I saw a touring production of the musical years ago and the sound was so poor I missed most of the nuances and could not understand any of the lyrics.

Then I saw the movie, which covers only the first half of the stage show, and I finally saw what all the fuss was about!

And yes. Very gay.

I saw the film Pt 1 recently, and was somewhat surprised that it's as popular as it is. I mean not that it isn't good at all, just that it's one of those huge successes. Perhaps too it's not great that I saw Wednesday first 😉

I enjoyed Wicked when I saw it, too! But that was a number of years ago. I'm waiting for Part 2 to see the movies. Do a double feature or something.

Speaking of Broadway, if you live in the metro area, I have a spare solo ticket to see Waiting for Godot with Keanu Reeves for October 4th (matinee). Would you be interested in being gifted it? I hate to see tickets go to waste or bother reselling...

I'm glad you got to see it at last! I feel like 90% of its enduring appeal is because of "Defying Gravity", but it totally deserves it. (I guess also the tragic doomed love story. "For Good" is like a punch in the heart.)
