Bob Chipman’s the best film critic on youtube. I said it. He’s now my go to for reviews. His reviews are always full of context as well as critique, and usually contain some wonderful writing. I say this as someone who used to write book reviews—it is very hard to write an entertaining review about mediocre art, but Bob Chipman routinely manages it. He has put his content on a number of platforms over the years, including an on-again off-again relationship with the Escapist that is now off again, so this is the main channel for his content. He does a number of shows—The Big Screen movie reviews; the Big Picture, where he talks about really whatever he wants, but largely explanations of comic book history, speculation about the future of different franchises, or just exposing you to obscure foreign schlock that you’d never come across otherwise; and Really That Good, where he takes a popular movie (like Titanic or Independence Day) and explores the trends in culture, history, film at the time, and the making of that particular movie that make it Really That Good, rather than just being popular.

If you’re only going to watch one youtube film channel of what I’ve recommended, this is the one. I don’t even think the creators on the other channels would disagree with me. And the fact that he has a thick Boston accent doesn’t hurt my estimation. (Feels like home.)

I watched Greyhound because of this review and—yup. It is exactly what he says it is.
