Prodigal Son

I just watched the last episode of season 1 of Prodigal Son. I didn't watch it when it aired in April because I honestly didn't know if there'd ever be another season. Yes, they were renewed, but with the production halt of indefinite length--I wanted to save watching it until I knew if there was a continuation or not. (Fool me once, Twin Peaks...)

But season 2 is coming back next Tuesday. Life goes on, and so does network television I guess.

So what did you think of it? I finally watched it right around Christmas, but my delay was more to do with my own distraction regarding television and never turning on the tv rather than specifically holding out.

Without spoilers, I'm really interested in seeing where this goes and hoping for no outrageous shenanigans for resolving the finale.

I feel like the season took a hard right turn in 1x18. They had the junkyard killer as main antagonist in the first half of the season (though only introduced several episodes in), but that storyline was very much about Malcolm and Martin's past. We have all this history of the girl in the box and what did Martin do, and how was Malcolm involved--then we find out it's Eve's sister, then the next episode she's killed off screen and suddenly there's a bigger bad than Martin? Honestly, I thought it was pretty early in the show to be framing Martin's serial killing as the lesser evil, so I'm not sure where they're going to head with that.

Honestly, no idea how they're going to write themselves out of this, but I'm here more for the characters anyway, so I'll roll with it.

This show is so terrible and I LOVE it. Any other time, I'd be pointing out all the things that aren't realistic, but the characters are so much fun that I can suspend belief and just enjoy it. How do you feel about me?

That is how I'm taking it as well. It's SO absurd. I'm kind of over realistic serial killer stories. (I'm usually a big true crime fan, but turns out, during a pandemic, not so much). But this one is just so not obeying the rules of reality that I just am here for Michael Sheen's scenery chewing and Malcolm's woobieness.

Of course I meant to say how do you feel about it, then got a phone call while typing and forgot to check what I wrote. Oops.

And I'm the same. I like my cop/legal shows to be realistic, except right now, I don't care, but also Prodigal Son does it so well, because you like the characters. I read that there will be a lot more Michael Sheen in season 2 and I can't wait for that.
