Sign of the times

I sing in a church choir. Today we were all told that the church has decided that all volunteers, including choir members, need to fill out a form authorizing a criminal background check. We also need to take a multi-part training course in recognizing signs of abuse, called SafeChurch. SafeChurch was explained to us as "the Episcopal church's way of avoiding a Catholic problem."
