Post two! Person of Interest, or my new fannish obsession. From this fandom I have learned a new and useful term: clam - a character who feels fierce and passionate emotions but has very strong control over their emotions and attempts stoicism, but sometimes there are cracks and the emotions show through.

Person of Interest is a clam show. I mean, it's basically Batman, and he's a super-clam. And wouldn't you know it! All of my favorite heroes are clams. Dean Winchester? Check. John Constantine? Check. If I've written it, chances are there's a clam involved.

Two things re POI in relation to its slash fandom (spoilery, but not very specifically):
1 - So we basically have confirmation now that the Machine is a) sentient and b) sets Finch up with romantic interests. It hasn't been stated on the show yet, but I'm fairly certain that the Machine led Harold to Reese in the first place. So...given a and b...the Machine is a slasher, Y/Y?

2 - I actually don't slash Finch and Reese really? I mean, not much? I think they're platonic lifemates but not specifically sexual. In reading some Finch/Reese, though, most of those stories follow standard first time sort of story arcs. You know, the does he like me? Will I ruin our friendship? angst angst type of arc. And while I don't really see a sexual relationship there, I don't see first time angst AT ALL.

I mean, Finch and Reese are best buddies ALMOST IMMEDIATELY on the show. There's struggle in the pilot over whether Reese will join him, but once he does, it's like superglue. Yes, Reese is spying on him and Finch is keeping secrets, but these seem like knee-jerk behaviors for the two. Ex-CIA spy spying. Super paranoid guy being paranoid. And when Finch finds out about Reese's spying...he actually already knew. There's no angst there. It's like they're playing a game because they know they have to play it out, not because they don't, on the most basic level, trust each other.

The vibe that I get is that for both of them, they are so damaged that they have no hope for any sort of life beyond this, and they are both resigned to and accepting of their deaths as a result of what they are doing. And they both are completely devoted to and driven by what they are doing. So, since they have that in common, since Reese makes Finch capable of doing something about the irrelevant numbers, and Finch gave Reese a purpose, I think if they were going to get together it would be almost at the start of their association and there really wouldn't be angst about it. Oh, there'd be angst later, at the inevitable reveal and fear of betrayal, but not when they got together.

So what I'm saying is, PoI is a tiny fandom and such fic as there is doesn't match my view of the show AT ALL. And yet I keep trying.
