There's a beauty of an episode where Nick is working on a custody case where the mom is a hooker and is about to go to jail, and her husband has a record (for entirely! noble! reason!) and so social services won't give him custody, and the kid is in a wheelchair, so the state wants him to stay in a home for disabled, which is full of autistic kids and the wheelchair kid doesn't want to go, but the husband doesn't have the money to make the house wheelchair accessible.
So Nick tries to track down the john who is the father, only to find out it's a friend of his. So he tries to blackmail back child support out of the guy, only the guy tells his wife and the wife is very christian and wants to adopt this POOR CHILD WHO HAS BEEN RAISED BY SUCH DISREPUTABLE PEOPLE. So the kid doesn't get any money out of this to make a case for staying with the husband who he thinks of as a father. And the court won't give custody to the john either cause, you know, john, so the kid ends up going to the home and all of Nick's efforts just made everything worse for everybody. THE END.
