I think watching it this time, it hit my Doctor Who button. I'd love to see something from 1955 Doc's perspective. From what we see in canon, it seems like Marty is really his only friend, so 1955 Doc has to wait half his life before he meets his best friend. I imagine that, even knowing the success in his future, waiting so long would be incredibly difficult. And I can't help but think he would stalk the McFly's, just a little bit, if only long enough to make sure Marty is born and the timeline is properly fixed (though even so, that's almost fifteen years in the future).
The problem would be Doc's perspective, because he is such a classic mad scientist. It would be really hard to write anything from his POV that felt true and included some of the pathos of his situation without going OMG EMO.
