ivyfic: (Sherlock thinking)

Dear Sherlock:
HOW CAN YOU DO THIS TO ME????? We have to wait an indefinite period of no less than a year for more episodes? ARGH! At least when American shows have heinous cliffhangers you only have to wait the summer. (Except when you have to wait forever. Twin Peaks! *shakes fist*)

A thought that I will probably forget by the time the second series airs--given the strong emphasis on sibling rivalry this ep, I'm going to bet Moriarty is pool kid's brother. Especially since Sherlock seems to have only looked into classmates.

With all the references to Bohemia, I was completely expecting Irene Adler to show up. For a bit, I was afraid Adler would be Moriarty. Don't get me wrong, Adler is a perfectly acceptable character in the original story, but in the century since she has become one of fandom's most venerable Mary Sues. I'm still afraid that we're going to find out that Moriarty's line about Sherlock having a heart refers to some secret past love affair with Adler. I would be extremely NOT PLEASED with this, and not just because of the slash goggles.

Is it wrong of me to keep rooting for John in danger? You know it's the only way to break Sherlock out of his "I don't care about the victims" mode. It was bound to happen.

Really, though, I just love that they've captured what I've always liked about Holmes and Watson: how spectacularly cruel Holmes can be to Watson at the same time that you can tell he really needs Watson. Classic is turning his back on John during their fight and curling up in a ball on the couch (I'm resisting the urge to call it a "flounce")--then being upset when John leaves. Love it.

The story I am writing got a little Jossed but not irrevocably. Mostly, though, I got fodder for a whole new batch of scenes... So much for my idea that I'd get this story out quickly.

Oh, but: Yay! I didn't realize there would be more episodes at all! I thought it was just a three-part miniseries.

It's pretty definitely going to have a second series. But Moffat has this other little project called Doctor Who that's going to prevent him from getting back to this for a while.

By the way, I went looking for my own Sherlock icons and I found This icon post. I thought you might be amused. :)

(Icon used for cuteness, and is not a statement.)

It was definitely a flounce. I think the word was used chez Mylodon this very day to describe the scene.

I just loved the I'M IGNORING YOU I'M IGNORING YOU--wait, where are you going? I bet he waited until he saw John approaching to flop into that chair and start shooting the wall.

I've been poking through the fic, and much of it portrays Sherlock as lacking in emotion, or completely not understanding it. I think he rather has an excess of it, and he understands it well enough to be a convincingly manipulative actor. I just think he's rather narcissistic--it's not that he doesn't know other people have emotions, he just doesn't really care. (Except when it's John.)

The Mary-Sueification of 30 something ex-opera singer one time character Irene Adler has been a turd in my Wheaties since I was 9. I am hoping, nay, praying, that Sherlock doesn't continue this trend. If it ever comes back!

I think you've got him spot on (yes, all that bored thing was for John's benefit).

The decription you give of Holmes is very canon (an excellent actor in the books and quite willing to play on/with people's emotions). Yes, he doesn't care a jot.

I spent the entire episode worrying she'd show up as a criminal mastermind/the object of a tragic past love affair with Sherlock.

If she shows up as she is in the original story, I'd be thrilled. It always seemed to me that Sherlock admired her on an exclusively intellectual level, as his equal. Besides, she was doing all her machinations to get together with the man she loved, ie, not Sherlock. But a hundred years of fandom has gone OMG A WOMAN! THAT SHERLOCK HAS A PHOTO OF! MARYSUEMARYSUEMARYSUE.

He's rather like a kid going, "Moooooooom! I'm boooooooored!" (My Mom's response was always, "if you want something to do, I'll give you something to do," and then she'd tell us to clean our rooms.)

He wants John to sit there and admire his tortured genius. I mean, that's kind of what John signed up for, with all his telling Sherlock he's brilliant. And then added to that is that I think he was genuinely hurt by the blog and has no emotional coping skills at all to deal with that. (Bet he wants John to kiss it and make it better.)
