I do not think any Highlander fans read my lj so this is probably useless, but I can't find a highlander storyfinders comm, so I'm giving it a shot.

I have been learning lots about Ancient Egypt recently. I'm also in a bout of rewatching Highlander episodes. I remember vaguely that it was established in one of the books that Methos was born in Ancient Egypt, and what with the Egyptian religion being focused on physical resurrection, I feel there must be an epic fanfic out there with Methos as some powerful religious figure in Ancient Egypt. There must be. So this is a heartfelt plea for anyone to point me in that direction, if such a thing exists.

"Still Heart" by Ladonna King fits the bill, I think, though there's a sort of horror/mystery bent instead of a fun, happy "Methos worshipped as a God" kind of flavor. But I remember it being a really good story. Unfortunately, her site seems to be down and I'm not sure if there's another place the story can be found. Some google fu might do the job, though....

There's a fic in which Methos winds up being reborn in the modern world as his original self--an Egyptian scribe. There's a gorgeous illustration that goes with it. Damn! I can't remember the name of the piece or the author. Let me ask around.

And I'm not looking for cheerful or crack, here. I just find the idea of him as a ka priest or something very interesting. Oo! I know! Maybe he's Aten! Maybe he's what inspired Akhenaten to create his whole heretical sect...

Man, now I have this idea--what if Methos was a ka priest during the reign of Amenhotep III? And died shortly before the pharoah, only to suddenly get better while being mummified. And this inspires Akhenaten to found a new cult, focused around Methos as an incarnation of Aten, and change his name and all that. Which of course led to Akhenaten moving the capital city (being forced out). And since immortality completely fits with Egyptian theology, Methos also believes this and settles into his role as cult figure. But then Akhenaten dies and the vizier, Ay, convinces Akhenaten's son Tutankaten to change his name to Tutankhamen and reject this new religion, and Methos is in the middle of all of this maneuvering, and witness to Ay's manipulations, but is being proclaimed a heretic and a fake and being forced out. And he is unable to stop the murder of Tutankhamen, or protect his sister when she's writing for help from the Hittites...

I do not have time for an idea of this scope. But it would be such an interesting way to tell the history of that period.

Oh! And if Methos believed he was a god rejected by his human flock, that makes perfect sense out of the Horsemen arc.
