Everybody's doing it! The lyrics meme.
Put your MP3 player on shuffle, and write down the first line of the first twenty songs. Post the poem that results. The first line of the twenty-first is the title.
Many waters cannot quench love
Cut through the back woods of the Harrison farm
I looked out this morning and the sun was gone
People are talkin'
God damn you woman! You fuckin' stabbed me!
Nicolas sailed for Palestine across the sunlit seas
Now is the solstice of the year
Blessed the one who all has hated and that is full of shame
She packed my bags last night pre-flight
Ma's out, Pa's out, let's talk rude!
Unto which of the angels said he at any time
She's got a smile that it seems to me
One dream in my heart
Skidemerink-a-dink-a-dink
You can read at your Bible
I got the stuff that you want
I adore thee, Mother Mary
I like to meow it meow it
Grieve not for me, my husband dear
All the places I've been make it hard to begin
Um… I don't think mine works. All the oratorios and musicals (and comic songs) kind of screw it up. I also seem to have quite a lot of religious music.
And I had to skip through twenty more instrumental, spoken word, or songs in foreign languages. On the plus side, I had completely forgotten that I have a bootleg copy of the Supernatural score, so...cool. Maybe I should shuffle more often. But I have 8,700 songs on this thing. It would take a while to get through.
The origins of the lyrics, for the curious:
Greater Love Hath No Man – Ireland
America High – Kane (yes, Christian Kane's band…shut up)
More Than A Feeling – Boston
Something to Talk About – Bonnie Raitt
Ode to an Accidental Stabbing – Evil Dead: The Musical
He journeys to Palestine from St. Nicolas – Benjamin Britten
Ring Out, Solstice Bells – Jethro Tull
Cycle II: Beatitudes of St. Isaac the Syrian from The Veil of the Temple – John Tavener (This was unbelievably hard to make out. Stupid boys choir and their lack of articulation.)
Rocket Man – Elton John
P**p*B****B**D****** – Flanders and Swann
Unto Which of the Angels from Messiah – Handel
Sweet Child O' Mine – Guns N Roses(as covered by the Dartmouth Aires)
This Nearly Was Mine – South Pacific
Skidemerink – sung by Aloha Campers
Quit Your Low Down Ways – Peter, Paul & Mary
Queen of the Night – performed by University of Oregon Divisi, don't know who it's by
On a Sea of Fleur-de-Lis – Richard Shindell
Kitty Techno – Wildcats
Backchat from a New England Grave from Witticisms and Lamentations from the Graveyard – Phillip Rhodes
Inside – Jethro Tull
Title from:
Bagged Me a Homer – Alf Clausen
