I am apparently in the middle of Angstfest 2007 and with my fic. I do actually have happy stories planned. Really. OK, no, I'm lying.

So I just watched the angstiest episode of Grey's Anatomy ever, "Into You Like a Train," (which really serves me right) and all of a sudden...I hear the opening notes of "Today Has Been Okay" by Emiliana Torrini from her album "Fisherman's Woman." I really thought I was the only person on the planet who listened to Emiliana Torrini. OK, the only person in the US. That's just--I have to like this show now, don't I?

No way, I have about three or four songs of hers garnered from various corners. When I get home, I'm going to look them up, try to figure out where they came from, but I know that name. I want to say she's got a theme song to a TV show or something.

She sang "Gollum's Song" on the Two Towers soundtrack. That's it for mainstream, I think. She was part of an Icelandic pop group and has two solo albums, "Love in the Time of Science," which is trip hop/electronica (very Bjork-like), and "Fisherman's Woman," which is acoustic folk. I own and love both of them, of course.

It was more that I was surprised to hear it on a mainstream TV show. It's perfect, of course; all the songs from that album have a sort of resigned melancholy to them, and they're quiet and introspective enough to work as a soundtrack, though I didn't really hear a word of the dialogue after it started playing cause I was paying too much attention to the lyrics.

Okay, "Gollum's Song" is one, but I know I have others. Damn it, now I'll have to go home and figure this out like now 'cause it's bugging me.

It's distracting when they use a song you like a lot like that. Most recently, it happened on Prison Break, where they had a montage to song, and the song choice was killer for the scene, but it was super distracting: they'd done it to "Teardrop" by Massive Attack, which is already the theme to House. Fox must have some deal with them or something...

Ah-ha! I have "Wednesday's Child" and "Easy" by her. I still dunno from whence they came (probably [livejournal.com profile] deepredbelle's doing), but they're quite pretty (especially "Easy").

I think I got her confused with Amanda Abizaid who sings the theme song to The 4400 because I don't see any TV themes by her.
