Meditation on ice cubes
Aug. 1st, 2005 05:06 amWhen water freezes, the forming ice crystals push impurities out of the solid phase, keeping them in the liquid phase. Impurities disrupt the crystal structure, so they get pushed along like a front before the ice. This is why ice cubes are always sort of white in the center - that's where all the crap is.
My refrigerator has an ice maker, but we don't use the ice very much. So the ice cubes sit there and slowly sublimate. Which means that when I go to get one, it tastes like absolute ass. It's all the bad-taste of the tap water concentrated into a little solid capsule.
I just thought you'd like to know why I don't use ice cubes anymore.
