So I'm working on this article on Sondheim's "Assassins," and I'm looking at the cast photos - and I notice that John Wilkes Booth looks oddly familiar. Yes, that's right, it's Agent Jack Bristow (Victor Garber). I do a little more digging, and it turns out he was the original Jesus in Godspell, and, more important to me, he's Anthony Hope in Sweeney Todd. Now I'm trying to imagine Jack Bristow bursting into a silly love song in a gorgeous tenor. I'm listening to "Assassins" right now, and trying to hear the similarity, but what with the singing and the southern accent, I just can't. Damn. I knew this guy was a great actor when he showed up on Alias. I just didn't know I'd already been a fan of him for years.
