Learn something new everyday

Turns out "emo" actually refers to emotionally-charged punk rock. And here I thought it was just a subgenre of badfic.

Warm fuzzy feelings

Coworker: "What's that on your neck?"
Me: "Uh... a necklace."
Coworker: "Oh."

It's exactly this kind of compliment that makes me glad to be a girl.

I spent fifteen minutes waiting for an elliptical to open up at the gym yesterday. Fifteen minutes! Stupid people and their New Years Resolutions.

*grumble grumble*

Wow... I've never seen people leave my office before five before... This is creepy.

ETA: It's 5:30 and I'm the only one on my floor. Echo...echo...echo... I'm sitting here writing copy for a ghost story about an abandoned building. OK, this is giving me the heebie-jeebies. I need to leave.

I've lived through a blackout and a transit strike. Am I a New Yorker yet?

I ate a B.M.T. for lunch today in a twisted sense of irony.

And you wouldn't believe how quiet 23rd street is with no city buses.

Dear Literary Agent,

If I can spot a gaping plot hole in the synopsis in your cover letter, I'm probably not going to sign the book.

Much obliged,
The Editorial Staff

The woman walking in front of me across the street at lunch bumped into a fire hydrant and tore her pants.

There but for the grace of God...

The eyes have not been doing their job today. So far I've misread the title "The Vanishing Violinist" as "The Vanishing Vomit" and "The Devil's Right Hand ppb" (ppb meaning paperback) as "The Devil's Right Hand Job."

Tonight the chore of laundry was made even more unbearable by 106.7 - Lite FM, pumped into our laundry room 'round the clock and playing non-stop Christmas music. You know, they wouldn't broadcast this stuff if someone, or more accurately lots of someones, didn't like it. *glares at someones*

So, if you are as disgusted as me, the next time you're in the mall and you hear the "dulcet" tones of Celine Dion breaking into Walking in a Winter Wonderland, sing these lyrics instead:

Cut for length - I am absolutely unrepentant about the taste )

Some of you may remember that at [livejournal.com profile] chuckro and [livejournal.com profile] jethrien's Halloween party, there was a candy bar with a Star Wars trivia question, and the answer in glow-in-the-dark ink. The question was "Who is R2-D2's master?" and the answer was "Queen Amidala," at which point we got into a big nit-picky argument about the accuracy of that.

Well, today one of the editors brought in the rest of her Halloween candy, and I saw on two different 3 Musketeers bars the same question: "Who is R2-D2's master?" The answer was listed as "Princess Leia" on one and "Luke Skywalker" on the other. Clearly they're just jerking around with us because all of these answers are technically true. But what's the point in asking a trivia question with a dozen answers? That would be the equivalent of asking, "What does C-3PO say in Star Wars?"

Gunga strikes again

James Spader went to my high school! I picked up my alumni magazine, and there his beautiful mug was on the back. Class of '78. True, he didn't graduate - he dropped out after Junior year, but so what? We claim Humphrey Bogart as an alum and he got kicked out for "excessively high spirits."

Spader has now joined the ranks of Duncan Sheik and Jack Lemmon and - more's the pity - all the Bushes.

It's been pointed out to me that everyone and there mother is throwing a party on the tenth. So, I'm making this democratic. Tell me what days work for you. And I will hold the party at the optimum time. And no voting if you're not coming.
