It's morphin time!

While proofreading the long fic, this drabble just sorta popped out. I officially have power ranger on the brain (like my new icon?). I even listened to the power rangers rock adventure today and enjoyed it.

Please R&R!

Title: Any Good
Author: Ivy
Rating: G
Synopsis: Jason wonders what it’s all about. Takes place sometime shortly after “A Golden Homecoming” (Power Rangers Zeo).
Disclaimer: Not mine. Not quite sure whose they are, but they’re not mine (shakes head).

The sun set slowly over Angel Grove Park. Jason sat on the picnic table next to the basketball court, watching it fall from the sky. He sat on the table, resting his elbows on his knees, hands clasped.

“Hey, Jase, there you are.” Tommy ran up. Jason greeted him with the traditional high five, smiling warmly at his friend.

“What are you doing?” Tommy asked.

“Nothing,” Jason replied.

“Mind if I join you?”

In response, Jason waved to the table invitingly. Tommy sat down on the bench, mimicking Jason’s contemplative pose exactly, and staring at the reddening sky.

“Can I tell you something?” Tommy broke the silence, looking up at his friend.

“Shoot.”

“I miss the green,” Tommy said, shaking his head.

“You dissin’ red?” Jason asked, mocking offense.

“Naw, it’s just green had that extra … umph.” Tommy punched the air for emphasis.

“Right,” Jason said sarcastically, “and it really appealed to the ladies.”

“C’mon, man. You realize I had to wear white for two years? Nobody looks good in white. And it’s impossible to keep clean. My Mom had to bleach my clothes every weekend. Never understood how I got that much dirt on them.”

“Just dirt?”

Tommy snorted.

“Bro, you’re lucky you’re wearin’ the red. It’s a good, all-purpose color. Gold on the other hand. How am I supposed to look cool in gold?”

Tommy reached up and flicked Jason’s gold earring, the one he had worn for as long as they had known each other.

“Hey,” Jason said, playfully jerking his head away.

“Yeah, you’re right,” Tommy added in mock seriousness. “’Cause you’re never going to look as cool as Goldar in that color.”

“I’m beginning to think I should wear a bling.” They both laughed, then lapsed into silence again, looking out across the park. It was an easy silence, each taking comfort in the presence of the other.

“Tommy,” Jason asked, mirth gone from his tone, “you ever wonder if we do any good?”

“Course we do, Jase,” Tommy replied emphatically. “I mean, how many monsters we taken out, just you and me? And we kept Rita Repulsa at bay. And Lord Zedd. Ivan Ooze, Lord Mondo…”

“That’s what I mean, man,” Jason said earnestly. “It never quits. I mean, when I was at the peace conference, we actually made a difference. We got people to talk to each other, to stop fighting. It doesn’t always last, but it’s an end to the violence. This,” Jason gestured to Angel Grove, “what the power rangers do. It never stops.”

“I don’t think Lord Mondo is going to be sitting down for peace talks any time soon. Don’t worry, though,” Tommy punched Jason’s leg. “We’ll beat him.”

“And then someone else will take his place, and we’ll keep fighting,” Jason sighed wearily. “Will we ever live in a world that doesn’t need the power rangers? I just hafta believe it’s possible, you know. Will we ever win?”

“Bro, we both know that’s never going to happen until the networks cancel us.”

Tommy looked forlornly at Jason. Jason replied solemnly, “We’re doomed.”

Note: OK, I know that was a sucker punch, but I just had to.

Cute cute cute! I want a non-meta ending, but that's just me being greedy for unironic, unabashed cuteness. *g*

If you make me use my little spare time to watch the Power Rangers, I will never forgive you, Ivy!!!

No, I want you to spend your little spare time to READ MY SHADOW FIC! Term papers come second.

I meant for it to be unironic, I really did, but when the thought occured to me, I just couldn't resist.

This is what I do on the train ride home now. Think out things to write once I get home.
