I watched an episode of Lie to Me last night. This series seems to me to have a fundamental flaw. It's based on this character being a human lie detector because he can see and interpret subconscious micro-expressions and "gestural indicators." The problem with this is it means the guest actors need to deliberately make these "subconscious" expressions. Which they are bad at. So it's talking talking talking ENORMOUS GRIMACE talking talking. It's kind of ludicrous to watch.

It's not ALWAYS like that, but yeah, you have a point. The quality of the episode pretty much hinges on the quality of the guest star. The better episodes are where it gets all high stakes and interpersonal and shit, and subtle expressions don't really matter so much.

Also, I would watch Tim Roth do anything. I've seen his prison dentist/inmate love story movie like, seven times.
