Harry Potter

OK, so here's the thing. I called the death of Albus Dumbledore before book 6 because he had to die so that Harry could step out of his shadow. And he did die. And Harry was still in his shadow. Harry never stepped up. He never moved beyond the parameters of what Dumbledore asked him to do. Ever. Yes, he shows great courage and ingenuity when unraveling Dumbledore's oblique instructions, but all he ever is is a freaking errand boy. I have to agree with Snape here. Every single book has relied on Dumbledore as an expositional crutch, as a behind-the-scenes puppet-master, and I was looking forward to Harry surpassing Dumbledore, to finding a better solution than the one Dumbledore had but no--Dumbledore anticipated everything. I mean, how great would it have been if Dumbledore had played this whole decades-long game of chess completely intending to sacrifice Harry and it was Harry who figured out that not only was it not necessary, but he had to live to defeat Voldemort. But no. Dumbledore had planned that too.

How freaking disappointing.
