There was! Only found out about it when reading about the movie, though. Definitely didn't hear about it at the time. Seems to have been a passion project for Clooney--maybe not so much that this movie needed to be remade than that it needed to be remembered at all. And yeah--the ending does play differently after 9/11, though the scale of destruction is nowhere similar. That's what makes it so chilling, though. I totally can envision what would happen after an attack like that.
