My choir reached out to me for a project we're doing with the NY Phil in support of Black Lives Matter. We were each asked to record us singing "We Shall Overcome" to a click track with our conductor conducting, submit to the NYPhil drop box, and they'll edit together.

From this, I have learned:
- I sing live, acoustically, with a chorus for a reason. Listening back to myself is agony--I can hear every single error. I won't tell you how many takes I did.
- Everyone looks stupid humming.
- Holy cow do I not have an adequate microphone. I tried two, including a Tascam Voice Recorder, which is a professional quality recorder used by journalists, and is capable of recording music...just not with the internal mic, which is all I have. I put it as far away from me as the cable would allow, adjust the gain all the way down, and still maxed it out when I got above mezzo piano.
- I also don't have anything close to a home studio. The space is small and very live. Some of the distortion on the recording was audible in the room--just the lapping of the soundwaves folding back on themselves too densely.

It's a pretty awesome project, and I'm so glad they reached out. But. I miss my choir.
